IP SMS Gateway

What is IP SMS Gateway

An IP SMS Gateway is an SMS server software that enables the high-speed delivery of bulk SMS messages over IP networks directly to the SMSC (Short Message Service Center).

How IP SMS Gateway works

The diagram illustrates how an IP SMS Gateway works. In our case, the IP SMS Gateway is the Ozeki NG SMS Gateway, which enables enterprise SMS messaging over IP-based communication protocols. Essentially, the SMS gateway acts as an SMS platform that connects business systems: such as SQL databases, Excel bulk messaging tools, and custom APIs, with mobile networks for efficient SMS delivery.

The left side of the IP SMS Gateway Architecture image shows the key SMS API integration features: SQL automation capabilities, reporting and analytics, and customizable options that allow organizations to manage large-scale SMS campaigns or bulk messaging, such as transaction information from banks. These features allow for SMS message tracking, data management, and message scheduling directly from internal systems.

In the red box, the Ozeki NG SMS Gateway connects to its billing module, which allows users to track costs and analyze usage, and can be connected to subscription systems. The IP SMS gateway communicates over an internet connection using multiple protocols: SMPP, UCP, CIMD2, HTTP, HTTPS and REST. Although the figure shows only one connection, multiple parallel connections can be in operation to different local or international mobile communication providers.

On the right, the gateway sends IP SMS messages to mobile networks, which then deliver standard SMS texts to end-user devices. This architecture allows businesses to automate notifications, marketing messages and alerts with minimal manual intervention.
